What is the Arrowverse?
The arrowverse is a shared multiverse which a number of series based on DC comics are set. The universe began with Arrow and it's spin-off show the Flash. But today it also includes Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl (which takes place in another universe), Batwoman and a number of webseries.

How is Supergirl Season 1, The Flash (1990), Constantine and Black Lightning connected to this?
The Flash (1990) was a stand-alone series which aired in 1990. It's reboot The Flash (2014) takes place in the Arrowverse. In the Elseworld crossover it is revealed that the universe in which that series is set is in the shared multiverse, thus making it canon. The same is true for Black Lightning, the series was stand-alone but was revealed to be set in the same multiverse in the Crisis on Infinite Earth crossover.
Supergirl Season 1 was produced by CBS and was not canon to the arrowverse. But after the cancelling of the series, it was bought by the CW and was brought into the universe. Supergirl now takes place on Earth-38. Constantine was produced by NBC and was also canceled after only one season. But in Arrow Season 4, the character of Constantine made a guest appearance and by the time Season 3 of Legends of Tomorrow came out Constantine was a series regular.
